Hello, I'm Dawn Heal and I've been a qualified nurse for over 30 years. During that time, I have gained wide experience, practicing in both the UK and the USA.
Since 2006 I have specialised in the care of patients with swollen limbs (lymphoedema).
The UK has a poor history of recognition and treatment of lymphoedema, with a lack of experience, even among many doctors and nurses. This is despite it being a long term, debilitating condition. Those who suffer know that it requires much better recognition and care.
As a Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist, I am a certified manual lymphatic drainage therapist and have been in practice for over 15 years. I run a highly successful Lymphoedema Clinic with clients coming from all over Southern England. I also work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist teaching other health care professionals throughout the UK in the care of patients with lymphoedema and I am proud to be a past Treasurer of the British Lymphoedema Society, advancing nationwide care for all patients.
Treatment costs are covered by most private health insurance companies, and I am a registered BUPA provider. I also treat NHS patients who can be referred for treatment by their own GP or specialist nurse.
Many patients return for ongoing, private maintenance treatment on a regular basis. While this may not be covered by insurance, you may be surprised to learn that this is less expensive than many other regular Medical treatments.
